I have been using a wheelchair for mobility for over 25 years. It has been an interesting journey. It is a love hate relationship. I can not get around without this thing connected to me so I have adapted and it is part of me now.I was born with my disability ( spinabifida ) and was ambulatory for many years.
You learn quickly what the term accessibility means. Learning to drive all over again. Finding out that places you liked to go where no longer availible for wheelers, especially friends homes. Public transportation at least in my city is a joke, but getting a little better. I am blessed that I have my own van with a wheelchair lift, but with the increase of gas prices and insurance rates it is becoming a financial burden.
